Why do Rusmar foam technologies provide exceptional emission control?

Rusmar foam creates a uniform, flexible and impermeable mechanical barrier (see diagram) that seals in odors, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), volatile nitrogen compounds (such as ammonia), volatile sulfur compounds (such as H2S) and of course fugitive dusts.

Are Rusmar foams biodegradable?

Yes, all of the Rusmar foams are fully biodegradable.

You say that the Rusmar foams add negligible amounts of material and water to the excavation site. Can you be more exact?

Certainly. For the AC-645 and AC-667SE foams under standard use conditions 1 drum (53 gallons) of foaming concentrate will deliver 8416 gallons of foam when mixed with 347 gallons of water! So, by volume just 0.06% of the foam produced is foaming agent, 4.1% is water and the remaining 95.2% is air.

For the direct use 900 series products, the concentration of foaming agent is higher because the products are used "neat" with no additional water. 1 drum will produce 1060 gallons of foam for a contribution by volume of just 5%. The remaining 95% is air.

Is it true that Rusmar foams will adhere to vertical surfaces?

All three 900 Series Foams and AC-667SE will form a long duration barrier on vertical surfaces. AC-645 will form a long duration barrier on surfaces with slopes up to 2:1.

Will Rusmar foams work in extremely cold weather?

Yes. All of our foam products work well in freezing weather and our Pneumatic Foam Units have been engineered to successfully apply our products in even the most harsh winter climates.

Will Rusmar foams work in extremely hot weather?

Yes. All of our foam products work well in extremely hot weather. However, the effective duration of AC-645 and AC-667SE may be reduced. If this is becomes the case in your application, the duration can be easily increased by adjusting either the applied thickness or the dilution ratio.

What is the "use life" of diluted AC-645?

The "use life" of diluted AC-645 is up to 6-months. If kept for periods greater than 1 week, however we recommend that the diluted product be stirred (or recirculated, if stored in a PFU) prior to use for maximum performance.

What is the "use life" of diluted AC-667SE?

The "use life" of diluted AC-667SE is up to 1 week. It is recommended that the diluted AC-667SE be stirred (or recirculated if stored in a PFU) prior to use for maximum performance.

What is the shelf life of AC-645?

Unopened drums of AC-645 have a shelf life of 2-year from date of manufacture. However, the product will settle with time. Therefore, it is recommended that drums of AC-645 that have been stored for more than 1-month be stirred prior to use if the complete contents are not going to be diluted at the same time.

What is the shelf life of AC-667SE?

Unopened drums of AC-667SE have a shelf life of 6-months from date of manufacture. However, the product will settle with time. Therefore, it is recommended that drums of AC-667SE that have been stored for more than 1-month be stirred prior to use if the complete contents are not going to be diluted at the same time.

What is the shelf life of AC-900 Series products?

Unopened drums of AC-900 Series products have a shelf life of 1-year from date of manufacture. However, the product will settle with time. Therefore, it is recommended that drums of AC-900 series products that have been stored for more than 1-month be stirred prior to use if the complete contents are not going to be used at the same time.

What are the freeze/thaw properties of Rusmar foam products?

AC-645 and AC-667SE are freeze/thaw stable. AC-900 series are NOT freeze thaw stable and thawing the product will not return it to a usable form.

If I want to feed AC-667SE and an AC-900 Series product from the same PFU what precautions should I take?

The chemistries of AC-667SE and AC-900 are quite different. In order to prevent the AC-900 Series product from interfering with the AC-667SE you will need to triple rinse the PFU with water following the AC-900 Series application. Likewise, it is recommended that the AC-667SE be triple rinsed from the PFU prior to filling the PFU with an AC-900 Series product.

If I want to feed AC-645 and an AC-900 Series product from the same PFU what precautions should I take?

No precautions are necessary. Once the dilution tank has been emptied of the first product the second product can be used. No rinsing is necessary.

I will be encountering groundwater during my excavation. Do I need to be concerned about Long Duration Foam contaminating the groundwater?

No. Long Duration Foam is non-hazardous, biodegradable and completely safe for human health and the environment. Test data is available to support this claim.

Can I use Long Duration Foam on water?

Yes. All Long Duration Foam products will float on the water's surface, and AC-900 series products will still form the membrane. It is recommended that large areas of water, such as lagoons, be sectioned with booms to provide support and adhesion for the membrane.

Can I walk or drive on the AC-900 membrane?

To maintain the integrity of the membrane and have optimal emission control performance, we do not recommend walking or driving over the membrane.
